Textile Artist
I love spending time in my top floor studio, the sun streaming in or the rain drumming on the roof, settling down to painting and printmaking, dyeing and stitching, reading and drawing. Symbols, myths and legends, the idea of the enchantment that is ‘out there’, in the woods, at sunset on the allotment, down by the seashore, all these provide respite and counterbalance to my concerns as a lifelong environmentalist. My work seeks to express what I see and feel in the hope of making a connection with what others see and feel.
Different types of printing (relief, cyanotype, gelli plate, gum arabic) often feature in my textile work and I enjoy hand and machine embroidery. The media is usually mixed, and has to fit the message or the story.
