Textile Artist
I am always drawn to textures and surfaces. I want to touch, run my fingers across and see what the surface has to tell me.
Painting on fabric allows me to try to show the surfaces I find so interesting and in doing so, get to know them better. Adding texture with machine stitching, for me, works like plugging a guitar into an amplifier. It brings the surface to life physically as well as visually.
Working in wholecloth allows me to concentrate on colour and form without the distraction of adding other materials.
I am repeatedly pulled towards representing water, perhaps because you can’t feel it in the same way as other subjects – it isn’t solid. I want to trap that surface texture and hold it in place. I find reflections intriguing and enjoy discovering the shapes that best show movement and the way light changes as the water ripples.
I am a member of 3 groups – TAGS, Chain Reaction and Diss Embroidery Group.
