These curtains are Kente cloths from Ghana. Kente cloth is associated with royalty and would be considered sacred.
It is usually made by the Asante and Ewe peoples of Ghana. and is made up of thin woven strips stitched together. The cloth colours and weave are highly symbolic.
I bought the length of fabric from an antique shop in Southern England who had obtained it from a small local museum that had closed. Goodness knows how the museum obtained it.
Gently hand washed and hung so the sun glows through I hope I am treating it with appropriate respect.
